Master’s degree in education, counseling, or academic field related to the college and one year of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in similar fields with two years of relevant experience.

Job Description:

Academic Advising

  • Provide comprehensive and independent academic advising to undergraduate students in both residential and UF Online (UFO) programs within THEM, including guidance on degree requirements, curriculum planning, academic policies, and university resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely advising records in compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
  • Interpret and communicate university, college, and departmental academic policies and procedures.
  • Manage and support processes related to excess hours, probation interventions, Universal Tracking, degree certification, and graduation clearance.
  • Assist students with registration and enrollment processes, including resolving registration issues and processing required forms.
  • Review and update degree audits, including substitutions, waivers, GPA calculations, and catalog year corrections.
  • Evaluate transfer applicants and change-of-major requests.
    Identify honor-eligible students and coordinate departmental honors advising and related processes.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain organized electronic files, advising notes, and student documentation.
  • Provide data-informed recommendations regarding enrollment trends, course demand, and scheduling needs.
  • Submit and process Distance Learning Fee requests as appropriate.
  • Assist with evaluation and processing of undergraduate transfer applications.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize assessment data related to student learning outcomes and academic performance.

Academic Support

  • Represent THEM at recruitment events, orientation programs, Preview, Florida Days, and other university outreach initiatives.
  • Support promotion and coordination of combination degree programs, degree certification, and late graduation petitions.
  • Collaborate with college administrators and university partners on recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Coordinate advising-related initiatives, including peer advising, internships, practicum support, and career exploration activities.
  • Partner with campus resources to facilitate student referrals and support services.
  • Analyze and report data related to advising effectiveness, student progression, and retention outcomes.
  • Identify and advise students regarding scholarships, awards, and academic opportunities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and the internship coordinator on practicum and experiential learning placements.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as the Department Chair assigns them.

Expected Salary:

$60,000 - $66,000; commensurate with education, skills, and experience. 

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education, counseling, or academic field related to the college and one year of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in similar fields with two years of relevant experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience advising undergraduate students at the University of Florida or in higher education.
  • Experience using Student Information Systems (SIS) and related university platforms.

    • Peoplesoft
  • Knowledge of UF policies and procedures (student records, FERPA, admissions, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the Department Chair, faculty, staff, students, and university administrators.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
