Job Description

Unleash the healing power of creativity from anywhere. Mentalzon.com is seeking innovative and qualified Art Therapists (ATR, ATR-BC) to provide engaging remote art therapy services through our dedicated platform. If you are passionate about utilizing the creative process and art media to foster mental wellness, improve insight, and support therapeutic goals, and you hold the necessary credentials and state licensure for independent telehealth practice, we invite you to join us. Connect with clients seeking expressive therapy modalities, enjoy complete schedule autonomy, and build your unique remote practice with Mentalzon.com.

Our platform connects you with clients, allowing you to focus on facilitating transformative art therapy experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Remote Art Therapy Services: Provide individual (and potentially group, if appropriate for the platform and your setup) art therapy sessions via secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. Facilitate clients' creative expression using various art media suitable for a telehealth setting to help them explore emotions, resolve conflicts, foster self-awareness, and achieve therapeutic objectives.
  • Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning: Conduct client assessments utilizing art-based methods alongside verbal communication. Develop collaborative, client-centered treatment plans that integrate specific art therapy interventions and goals.
  • Tele-Art Therapy Adaptation: Skillfully guide clients in setting up an appropriate remote art-making environment and selecting suitable, accessible art materials. Creatively adapt art therapy directives and techniques for effective virtual delivery.
  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in compliance with HIPAA, AATA/ATCB ethical standards, and any applicable state licensing board requirements. Document both the art process and product as clinically relevant.
  • Ethical & Safe Practice: Adhere strictly to the AATA Ethical Principles for Art Therapists, the ATCB Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures, relevant state regulations (if licensed), and HIPAA. Ensure client safety and maintain professional boundaries within the remote therapy context.
  • Client Communication: Clearly communicate the art therapy process, session structure, treatment goals, fees, and practice policies to clients.
  • Direct Fee Management: Establish your professional fees for art therapy services and manage billing and payment collection directly with clients.

Requirements:

  • Education: Master's Degree in Art Therapy from a program approved by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) or a program meeting the educational standards of the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).
  • Credentials: Must hold a current, active credential from the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR). Board Certification (ATR-BC) is strongly preferred.
  • State Licensure for Independent Practice: Crucially, must possess any required active state license (e.g., LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or a specific state Art Therapy license like LCAT, LPAT, LCPAT, LPC-AT) that legally permits the independent practice of psychotherapy and/or art therapy via telehealth in the state(s) where you intend to offer services. Holding only an ATR/ATR-BC may not be sufficient for independent telehealth practice in many states. You are responsible for verifying and complying with all state-specific licensure and telehealth laws.
  • Experience: Demonstrated post-graduate clinical experience providing art therapy services. Experience delivering art therapy via telehealth is highly desirable.
  • Telehealth Competency: Proficiency in using HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms, secure messaging, and electronic record-keeping systems. Specific competence in adapting art therapy techniques and material guidance for remote sessions.
  • Legal & Ethical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of HIPAA, AATA/ATCB ethical codes, relevant state licensing board regulations (if applicable), and best practices for tele-art therapy.
  • Professional Liability Insurance: Must maintain active professional liability (malpractice) insurance covering the scope of art therapy practice, including telehealth.
  • Skills:
    • Strong art therapy assessment, intervention, and evaluation skills.
    • Knowledge of diverse art media properties and their therapeutic application.
    • Deep understanding of the creative process in therapy.
    • Excellent clinical judgment and therapeutic skills.
    • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
    • Empathy, cultural humility, and strong rapport-building abilities.
    • Adaptability, creativity, and problem-solving skills for the telehealth environment.
    • Organizational skills and reliability.

Conditions of Collaboration:

  • Status: Independent Contractor (1099).
  • Unmatched Flexibility: Complete control over your work schedule and hours – design a full-time, part-time, or supplemental practice (e.g., 3-20+ hours/week).
  • Practice Autonomy: Full control over your client caseload, therapeutic approach, and clinical decisions within ethical bounds.
  • Work Remotely: Provide art therapy services from your chosen secure, private location within the US where you hold the necessary credentials and licenses.
  • Set Your Professional Fees: Determine your own competitive rates for your specialized art therapy services.
  • Direct Client Payments: Clients pay you directly; Mentalzon facilitates connection but does not process payments or take commissions on session fees.
  • Client Reach: Connect with individuals specifically seeking art therapy through the Mentalzon.com platform.
  • Platform Support: Benefit from Mentalzon's marketing efforts and receive technical assistance for your profile and platform use.
  • Build Your Reputation: Utilize platform features for client feedback (managed ethically) to enhance your professional visibility.
