What is an Environmental Technician?
An Environmental Technician assists higher level Environmental Team members in assessing Company operations and interpreting how the Company complies with environmental regulations. In addition, they collaborate with departments as well as individuals within the Company by providing field oversight and/or inspections to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and permits. Environmental Technicians may also interface with local, state, and federal officials and regulators.



What does an Environmental Technician do?
Under general supervision, an Environmental Technician is responsible for a broad range of environmental regulatory compliance projects and activities including one or more of the following functions:

»Performing a significant level of field oversight, assuring environmental compliance connected with gas and electric construction projects, waste management & spill response, remediation projects, health and safety assistance, water quality, air quality, and land use relating to the Company's operations

»Assisting in permitting analysis on engineering and construction projects

»Determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil, and utilizing expertise of environmental engineering principles and applied technologies



What does it take to be an Environmental Technician? 



Required:

»Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in the following area(s): Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field of study. In lieu of a Bachelors, an Associate’s Degree with at least 3 years of job-related practice

»Strong analytical, organizational, quantitative and communication expertise

» capability to work individually and as part of a group

»Valid driver’s license



Preferred:

»Working expertise of Federal and New York State environmental regulations

»Previous practice superviseing utility construction projects is a plus.

»Working expertise/practice in Health & Safety requirements and OSHA regulations

»Working expertise or previous practice working with environmental/engineering consultants and regulatory agencies is a plus

»Working expertise/application of GIS
