General Services Department – Corporate Safety, Risk Management Division

Location: 414 E. 12th Street

Pay: $24.77–$37.16 per hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities



What you’ll do

  • Deliver safety training to employees so they understand safe work practices and reduce on-the-job injuries.
  • Conduct workplace inspections to identify hazards and recommend practical corrections that prevent accidents.
  • Assist with accident investigations to determine causes and help prevent repeat incidents.
  • Develop and update safety rules and procedures to support consistent, compliant safety practices across departments.
  • Coordinate prevention programs and schedules to ensure safety initiatives are delivered on time and reach the right teams.

  • Safety trainings are well-attended, clear, and positively received by employees.
  • Hazards are identified early and corrective actions are implemented quickly.
  • Accident investigations are thorough, well-documented, and lead to meaningful prevention measures.
  • Supervisors and employees actively cooperate with safety programs and recommendations.
  • Safety programs run on schedule and align with department policies and procedures.

Qualifications



REQUIRES

  • High school graduation and 4 years of experience in safety, health or environmental work; OR an accredited Associate's degree and 2 years of professional experience in safety, health, or environmental work; OR accredited Bachelor's degree in safety, health, or environmental studies.
  • The experience may be waived upon presentation of the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation.
  • Ability to meet pre-employment screening requirements , including a drug screen, as required by the City.

PREFERENCES

  • Prior safety-related experience.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
