POSITION TITLE: SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST REPORTS TO: COORDINATOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
OVER-TIME STATUS: EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 711
Performs difficult professional work in making diagnostic evaluations of individual pupils including an assessment and interpretation of the students intellectual social and emotional development; serves as a consultant to school personnel and parents in interpreting problems; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Special Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Performing diagnostic evaluation of students assessing and interpreting intellectual social and/or emotional development; conducting consultations; preparing and maintaining files and records.
JOB SPECIFICATION/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Thorough knowledge of the practices methods and techniques used in the special education process for diagnostic and evaluative procedures; excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to work with and through other school personnel parents and community agencies. The successful applicant must be eligible for certification by the Virginia Department of Education for an endorsement in School Psychology or be licensed by the Virginia Board of Psychology.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Masters or Educational Specialist degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in school psychology.
