Job Overview: The Special Education Coordinator provides leadership, oversight, and support for special education services at the building level. This position ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, coordinates Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supports special education staff, collaborates with general education staff and families, and promotes inclusive practices to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
The Coordinator works closely with administration, teachers, related service providers, families, and community agencies to ensure high-quality services aligned with district goals and Nebraska regulations.
The Special Education Coordinator will be placed on the certified teacher pay scale plus an additional stipend.
Key Responsibilities:
Special Education Coordination & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with federal IDEA regulations and Nebraska Rule 51 requirements.
Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs and MDTs.
Serve as the District Representative for IEP & MDT meetings and ensure procedural safeguards are followed.
Monitor timelines for evaluations, re-evaluations, annual reviews, and progress reporting.
Maintain accurate documentation and student records in accordance with FERPA and state guidelines.
Support manifestation determination reviews and disciplinary procedures involving students with disabilities.
Serve as a resource to general education staff regarding accommodations, modifications, and differentiation.
Personnel Management:
Provide guidance and support to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
Assist with staff scheduling, caseload assignments, and service delivery models.
Support professional development related to special education practices, inclusion, accommodations, and behavior supports.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with counselors, administrators, school psychologists, and district leadership to support student success.
Support transition planning for students (postsecondary education, employment, independent living).
Facilitate communication with families and outside agencies.
Work in collaboration with the building leadership team with a focus on student learning.
