Chipton-Ross is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for a contract opportunity in Hawthorne, CA.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
- Minimum 8 Years of experience
- Background in precision machining, medical device, aerospace, or similar regulated manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and GD&T.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems for planning, scheduling, and work order management.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specs, and inspection requirements.
- Proficiency in process documentation and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical skills for capacity planning, time studies, and workflow optimization.
- Effective communication across engineering, production, and quality teams.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes, routings, and work instructions for CNC machining, assembly, and secondary operations.
- Create and maintain process documentation: setup sheets, tool lists, inspection plans, and traveler content.
- Drive manufacturability improvements through tooling selection, fixture design, cycle?time reduction, and workflow optimization.
- Support NPI by defining process flow, estimating cycle times, and coordinating first?article builds.
- Partner with Quality to resolve nonconformances, implement corrective actions, and improve process capability.
- Evaluate new equipment, tooling, and technology to improve throughput and reduce cost.
- Conduct time studies and capacity analysis to support planning and quoting.
- Production Planning & Scheduling
- Convert customer demand into executable production schedules aligned with capacity, material availability, and labor constraints.
- Create, release, and manage work orders; maintain accurate routings, BOMs, and lead times.
- Sequence jobs to optimize machine utilization, reduce changeovers, and maintain on?time delivery.
Monitor WIP, identify bottlenecks, and adjust schedules proactively.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure material availability and with Quality to align inspection capacity.
Communicate schedule risks, recovery plans, and priority changes to operations leadership.
- Maintain ERP accuracy for dates, quantities, and status updates.
Cross
- Work closely with machinists, programmers, quality inspectors, and leadership to ensure smooth execution.
- Support daily production meetings with data, updates, and problem?solving.
- Assist with customer audits, PPAP/FAI packages, and documentation requirements.
- Provide technical support to shop floor teams and help troubleshoot process issues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with NPI, FAI/PPAP, and regulated documentation.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, and root cause analysis.
- CAD/CAM exposure (SolidWorks, Mastercam, Fusion, etc.).
- Prior experience in a high?mix, low?volume machine shop environment.
